Masters Degree in Environmental Planning and Management (MEP)

The main objective of this course is to produce professionals with mastery technical and social skills in planning and management of a wide range of issues in Environment and Sustainable Development. Specifically, this programme is intended to bridge the gap for students who need further education after graduating from IRDP
and other higher learning institutions in Environmental Planning and related courses; equip students with knowledge, skills, and tools required for managing the environment for sustainable development;
enable students to conduct research independently to address the emerging environmental issues and challenges in various sustainable development initiatives and build capacity for different development
actors in sustainable development and environmental planning.

Masters Degree in Development Economics (MDE)
The main objective of this course is to equip students with the innovative tools and techniques to develop policies and strategies as well as managing resources to achieve the overriding goal on economic growth and development in Tanzania. Specifically, this programme aims at assisting the students to be able to interpret theories and models of economics in development planning; apply theories and models of economics in diverse areas of development planning and management; develop and manage various development policies and strategies for organizational development and conduct independent social science research and policy analysis in development economics and disseminate information to end users.

The Institute of Rural Development Planning (IRDP) is one of the fast growing higher learning Institutions in Tanzania which was established as a Cooperate Body under the Act of Parliament No. 8 of 1980 as a higher learning institute providing advanced training, research and public services in the field of rural development planning. It is located in Dodoma Municipality which also is the Capital City of the United Republic of Tanzania. The Vision of the Institute is to be a Centre of Excellence for both academic and professional work in rural development planning and management for poverty reduction and sustainable development. The Institute is accredited by the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) at National Technical Award (NTA) Level 9 the level which allows Technical Institutions in the country to offer professional awards up to Master Degrees.

 

The Institute has therefore designed Masters Degree programmes intended to meet the professional aspirations of people who wish to continue on their technical path while progressing to bigger and better individual, organizational and institutional performance. These programmes reflect emerging trends, opportunities and innovative development strategies in each respective field. By combining theory and real world application, the designed masters’ programmes will enable learners to develop professions required to display mastery of complex and specialized area which will enable them to work autonomously and in a complex and unpredictable situations.
 
Based on the aforesaid, IRDP therefore invites applications from qualified Tanzanians and non- Tanzanians for admission into the following Masters Degree Programmes in the academic year 2013/2014 which will commence in late September, 2013.


 1. Masters Degree in Development Economics

This is a one and half years (18 months) programme which is intended to develop professionals with technical skills in development economics and planning required to enhance the performance of public and private sectors.

 Minimum Entry Requirements

The candidates intending to apply for admission to the Masters programmes of the Institute of Rural Development Planning should have at least one of the following minimum qualifications as approved by NACTE:-

  1. At least a Bachelor Degree Second Class for classified awards or average of B grade or credit for unclassified awards in relevant or related discipline; or
  2. At least a Bachelor Degree of Pass grade for classified awards or average of C grade for unclassified awards in relevant or related discipline with Postgraduate Diploma of at least Second Class for classified awards or average of B+ grade for unclassified awards; or
  3. At least a Bachelor Degree of Pass grade with Postgraduate Diploma in relevant or related discipline.

 

2. Masters Degree in Environmental Planning and Management

This is a one and half years (18 months) programme which is intended to impart knowledge and skills to professionals who will be involved in a wide range of issues related to environmental resources planning and management for sustainable development.

Minimum Entry requirements

Candidates intending to apply for admission into this study programme should have at least one of the following minimum qualifications as approved by NACTE:

  1.     At least a Bachelor Degree - Second Class for classified awards or average of B grade or credit for unclassified awards in relevant or related discipline; or.
  2. At least a Bachelor Degree with a Pass grade for classified awards or average of C grade for unclassified awards in environmental planning and management or related discipline with Postgraduate Diploma of at least Second Class for classified awards or average of B+ grade for unclassified awards.
  3. At least a Bachelor Degree of Pass grade with Postgraduate Diploma in relevant or related discipline.

 

MODE OF APPLICATION

  1. All applications must be accompanied by genuine photocopies of the relevant certificates. Applications without photocopies of relevant certificates will not be considered. The following documents should be attached with the application forms:
    1. Birth certificate
    2. Copy of the documents entitling the applicant to apply for admission that has been certified by the relevant authorities (degree certificate and transcript of academic record).
    3. Curriculum Vitae
    4. Referee reports.
    5. A bank pay in slip for application fee
  2. Applicants should pay a non-refundable application fee of TShs. 30,000/= (Thirty thousand shillings only) for Tanzanian applicants and 40 USD for non Tanzanians payable to the Institute of Rural Development Planning (IRDP) through CRDB bank (Dodoma Branch) with the account No.  01J1082678600 (Swift Code CORUTZTZ)
