Welcome to the Department of Population Studies of the Institute of Rural Development Planning. Department of Population Studies provides an exciting and attractive environment for learning and research, to both students and academicians.
We provide high quality competence based educational opportunities for students in the fields of Population and development planning and Community Development for Certificate (NTA Levels 4 & 5), Ordinary and Higher Diploma (NTA Levels 6 &7), Bachelor Degree (NTA Level 8) and Master degree (NTA Level 9).
With our long history of using the Competence-Based Education and Training system (CBET), students acquire the relevant knowledge, attitudes and skills and apply these competences during their field practicals, and community-based research experiences, which equip them with relevant practical experiences in real life.
Research is another area in which we are growing. The Department has academic staff with a wide range of specialization which reflects the interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary nature of our research in addressing Population and development issues, Population and Environments planning, Integration of Population Variables in development planning, and Community Development issues.
We also provide consultancy and advisory services to a wide of range stakeholders. Through research, we seek to discover new knowledge related to population and development planning and translate this knowledge to people’s lives.
Established in 2005, the number of academic programs offered by the Department has increased from one programme in 2005/2006 to six in 2017/2018, ranging from the Basic Technician Certificate (NTA Level 4) to Master Degree (NTA Level 9).
