Work Experience

Sarah Katunzi works as a Tutorial Assistant in the Department of Rural Development and Regional Planning at IRDP. She is a Town Planner by Profession with four years of experience in the field of Urban and Regional Planning, District and Village Land Use Planning, GIS and Remote Sensing Technologies, Resource Mapping, Ecological planning and Open Data Source Mapping with the Open Street Map Tanzania Team (Dar Ramani Huria)


Professional Skills

  • Wide knowledge and experience on data collection tools, techniques and processes and the use of most current mobile data collection platforms such as Survey Solutions and Open Data Kit (ODK).
  • Well familiarised and experienced in different Town Planning Projects such as Site Planning, Neighbourhood and Regularization (Detailed) Planning, Master Plans, Land Use Planning, Regional and Ecological Planning.
  • Competent in the application of PRA tools in the preparation of Village Land Use Plans and Village Resource Assessment for sustainable development in the village as well as sustainable utilization of natural resources like Land and Water.
  • Wide knowledge and skills in the use of Planning Professional Software such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcMap, QGIS, ArcView, ArcScene, City Engine, IDRISI Selva, ERDAS Imagine, Java Open Street Map (JOSM); and tools such as Google Earth and GPS for natural Resources Mapping, Assessment and Management and other spatial modelling software’s.
  • Experienced in Spatial Data Base Management (SDBM), data acquisition, storage, retrieval, information processing, analysis and presentation as well as dissemination to various stakeholders and decision makers in and outside the country.
  • Experienced in the use and applications of statistical packages such as IBM SPSS, Stata and Microsoft Excel.
     


Research and academic Interests

My main research and academic interests are land use planning, natural resource assessment, regional, district, and village planning, and the application of current technological innovations in climate adaptation, variability and vulnerability assessment, mitigation, and adaptation measures.
